Master Decorators Association: Terms of Membership & Code of Conduct

By submitting this application, you agree to the financial terms of your membership and pledge to uphold the professional standards required to carry the Master Decorators Association (MDA) badge.

1. Financial Terms and Conditions I agree to the non-refundable £50 vetting fee. I acknowledge that my payment details will be securely stored by Stripe. I further authorize the MDA to charge my saved payment method for the annual membership fee of my selected tier (Associate: £100, Member: £150, or Fellow: £200) only upon my successful completion of the vetting process and official notification of my acceptance into the association.

2. Professional Code of Conduct As a member of the MDA, you represent the pinnacle of the decorating trade. Membership is a privilege that requires strict adherence to the following professional standards:

Craftsmanship & Quality of Work

  • I will execute all work to the highest industry standards, ensuring thorough preparation and a flawless finish on every project.
  • I will use materials that are of professional quality and entirely fit for their intended purpose.

Client Relations & Transparency

  • I will provide detailed, written quotations outlining the full scope of work, materials, and total costs before commencing any job.
  • I will communicate clearly with clients regarding project timelines, delays, and any necessary variations to the original quote, ensuring no hidden fees.
  • I will maintain absolute respect for the client’s property, ensuring a tidy, secure, and well-managed site at the end of each working day.

Health, Safety, & Environment

  • I will comply strictly with all UK Health and Safety legislation, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
  • I will ensure the safe, legal, and environmentally responsible disposal of all trade waste, including paints, solvents, and hazardous materials.

Legal & Insurance Requirements

  • I confirm that I hold valid, up-to-date Public Liability Insurance and will maintain adequate cover for the duration of my membership.
  • I will operate my business strictly within UK law regarding employment, taxation, and consumer rights.

Dispute Resolution

  • In the event of a customer complaint, I agree to address the issue promptly, fairly, and professionally to reach an amicable resolution.
  • I will cooperate fully with the MDA should a client escalate a dispute to the Association for review.

Reputation & Association Representation

  • I will conduct myself—both on-site and online/social media—in a manner that upholds the dignity, professionalism, and reputation of the decorating trade.
  • I agree to use the MDA badge and branding strictly in accordance with association guidelines, and I will remove all branding immediately if my membership lapses or is revoked.

The Master Decorators Association reserves the right to suspend or terminate the membership of any individual found to be in breach of this Code of Conduct, without a refund of any fees paid.
